The largest city in Tamil Nadu, Chennai is a land of alluring beaches that offer captivating views of nature. It has several beaches, each known for its unique features. While some beaches are known for their splendid views of nature, some are popular for their sports activities. Again, some of them are known for beach parties and some for their amazing sunset and sunrise views. All these reasons make Chennai an ideal location for summer beach getaways.
If you plan to visit here during the summers, there are various pristine beaches that you can explore here. But before I list them down for your convenience, here is a suggestion that I have for you. Make your booking to the hotels in Chennai in advance so that you can travel here at ease without any worries.
Morning view of the Covelong Beach
Situated in Mahabalipuram, Covelong Beach is one of the best beaches in Chennai. This place has an old-world charm since it displays an old seaport. If you plan to visit here with your friends, family or beloved, there are several things you can do here. You can take part in sports activities like windsurfing and swimming. Surfing was new to me so I tried this out on my trip and absolutely loved the experience. I learned the techniques from the surfing class this place offers and went ahead with the activity. Besides, you can also attend their Covelong Point Festival and enjoy a great time listening to live music here. Apart from this, you can also devour at several food joints or just simply scroll by the beach. Whichever you choose to do, I can assure you will have a great time!
Landscape view of the Marine Beach
One of the longest beaches in India, Marine Beach covers 12 kilometers from Beasant Nagar to Fort St. George. It is one of the best and the most preferred beaches in India among the locals as well as the tourists. Many tourists visit here to witness the glistening beach sands and to rejuvenate themselves from their daily life schedules. But my sole purpose for visiting this beach was to enjoy a splendid city view from Chennai Lighthouse and take part in fun activities such as horse riding. There are also various statues and iconic buildings available here commemorating the famous historical personalities of India along the Marine beach that you can also witness on your trip.
Waves gushing on the Elliot’s Beach
Elliot’s Beach, also known as ‘Bessie’ is a perfect spot to explore on weekend getaways. Situated in Besant Nagar, Elliot’s Beach has a serene atmosphere and is an apt destination to de-stress and connect with nature. When I visited here, I mostly saw the place crowded with youngsters but you can also come here with your family and friends. Apart from witnessing the spellbinding views of the beach, you can also visit the Velankanni Church and Ashtalakshmi Temple located here. Besides if you are a die-hard foodie like me, you can also explore the cafes and the restaurants surrounding the beach and have a good time trying out the popular delicacies of Chennai.
Sunrise at the Thiruvanmiyur Beach
Lying near Elliot’s Beach, Thiruvanmiyur Beach is amongst the most preferred beaches in Chennai. This is also among the quietest Chennai beaches that serve spectacular sunrise and sunset views. If you are a fitness freak, you can walk or jog by the beach here while simultaneously enjoying the sunrise and sunset views. And if you love to eat, you can explore the food stalls around the beach and try your favourite dishes as you pass by. On my visit, I also visited the paintball club nearby and had fun laying this shooting sport.
Captivating view of a serene Sadras Beach
A perfect blend of comfort and tranquillity, Sadras Beach lies near the Sadras Fort in Mahabalipuram. It is a beautiful beach to refresh and unwind from monotonous life and to soothe the senses with the captivating views of white sand, palm trees and cerulean waters. Many locals and tourists visit here to enjoy the mesmerising view of the beach and to gorge on the snacks found in the local food stalls. It has exceptional beauty and is generally famous for the Dutch ruins found here. When I visited here, I explored the Dutch cemetery and the Dutch fort here and gazed at the scenic beauty to my heart’s content.
Panoramic view of Thengapattinum Beach
Thengapattinum Beach is another famous picaresque beach in Chennai. It lies in Thengapattnam, Kanyakumari and is the first choice among tourists for a beach getaway. Thengapattinum Beach has a plethora of coconut groves adding to the beauty of nature. It is dotted with pristine blue waters and a vast coastline and has a serene vibe like none other. This picaresque beach is also a famous picnic spot among tourists and locals. With its beauty as its major attraction, trust me, Thengapattinum Beach is the best place to soak into the essence of the beaches in Chennai.
One of the best things that you can do to release your stress is by a stroll down the beach. Even though the city has plenty of healing places to offer, there is nothing like the vibe a beach can create. So, without much waiting, plan your trip to this divine location today and I promise, you won’t be able to hold yourself back from praising the beauty of Chennai.
