Hiking in The Beautiful & Mysterious Swallow Valley

Sichuan is a mountainous province in China so that many splendid natural views are very famous, and Swallow Valley is one of them. The valley can be regarded as the sister of Hailou Valley (about 10 kilometers between them) and located on the range of Gongga Mountain. There are about 15 peaks in Swallow Valley, rising 5000 meters above the sea level. Gradually extending upward to the main peak (7556 meters) of Gongga along the valley, the seven climate zones are formed so you can experience the different views here. You have to pass a simple old town before entering the valley. This town is also the site of Xinxing Government. According to the locals’ words, the town is the gathering place of Tibetans during Qing Dynasty. It takes you about several minutes from Xinxing to the entrance of Swallow Valley. At the entrance, you can see a small village. The villagers in this village are the Yi ethnic group. Here you can see many old men in the Yi ethnic traditional clothes. Entering the valley, you first find a snow mountain named Foye Mountain. There is a very unique hot spring which contain many mineral substance (good for health). In the valley, you have to walk along the the bank to the heart of the valley. The towering snow-capped mountains are on the both sides. From mountainside to the bottom, you can find the Conifers such as cedar and Broadleaf plants like birch. Because of different altitudes and tolerance to cold, the leaves of different kinds of trees turn yellow or red or still keep green. In autumn, it is very colorful here. A cool river originates from the melted snow of Gongga. In summer, a lot of swallows gather in the valley and fly away in autumn. In the past, the farmers often gather medical plants here in summer and witness the swallows and give the name to the valley, Swallow Valley.
